FAQ

What unit systems are supported?

This tool supports both the metric (SI) system and the imperial/US customary system. For example, for length you can convert between millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers, inches, feet, yards, and miles.

How accurate are the conversions?

All conversions use standard, widely accepted conversion factors (e.g. 1 inch = 0.0254 meters exactly). Results are displayed with up to 8 significant figures.

Why is temperature converted differently from other units?

Unlike most units, temperature scales (Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin) use different zero points, so conversion requires both multiplication and addition rather than a simple ratio. For example, 0°C = 32°F = 273.15 K.

What are US gallons vs. imperial gallons?

This tool uses US gallons (approximately 3.785 liters). The imperial (UK) gallon is different (approximately 4.546 liters). Similarly, US fluid ounces, cups, pints, and quarts are US customary measurements.
